Artist's Statement

Art in all its various forms (whether it be poetry, dance, theatre, or painting) is a means of communication. If I have had nothing else confirmed through my education, it is that. I believe that the arts allow human beings to express the deepest parts of their being, to say those things common to us all. The arts give humans a voice.

My voice is strongest when I am painting. With a brush and some oil, I am able to say things that I could never find words to convey. Whether it be extreme pain or extreme happiness (or any number of things in between) I find clarity with painting. But, at the same moment, I see a kind of mystery. While I know exactly what I was thinking as my brush moved across the canvas, the viewer never really can understand exactly what I intend. I like this. It’s where conversations start and the communication begins.
